Because sometimes its 8 AM and you already have all this open. RAM usage currently sitting at ~11 GB.
*Some things hidden (E.X. what I’m actually working on in Solidworks and Eagle) because they are not ready to be shared. Also my window management is awful, I’m not actually working with either of the Word documents.

I don’t think I’ve ever used more than about ten even with my PC in workhorse mode.

To think I somehow managed to get by with 3GB of ram in my old laptop. This thing uses >3 at idle.

I take it you don’t do anything resource intensive at work?

I’ll get 128GB of RAM in my next one so I can use Chrome with like 4 tabs open

This is assorted school work. I’m studying electrical engineering and am currently working on stuff for an electric race car for a club I am part of.
BmanUltima's car still hasn't been fixed yet, he'll get on it tomorrow, honest.

I’ve got 16 in mine, because Space Engineers will easily eat up about 12 by itself if you’re on a planet.

I just built a new one last week, and there was a 2x16gb kit on sale. I couldn’t resist!

I know for my next build I want dual GB cards and a triple (or quad) screen set up. (I have a thing for screen real estate)

I’ve got 32GB in mine. Comes in handy when running a VM or two along with running other CAD applications or modern DX12 games.

It’s a good thing to have, though I did get with another developer over whether we could use the “Standby” RAM:
Which of course we can, since that is just caching stuff since free RAM is wasted RAM (all RAM is just caching stuff, but the “Standby” is just proactive caching by the OS of things that might be useful.

Nothing like CAD or CFD, but develop medical documentation software. The PCs can barely handle it.

How is that possible? I had more than that on a MacBook Air and could barely survive.

My laptop has 16gb of RAM. I’m never far from an outlet.
I’m usually using GIS, but I often have AutoCAD and/or Microstation, Word, Excel, and multiple browser windows open at the same time. I’m fortunate to have a couple of servers to offload tasks that take a long time to process (i.e. processing LIDAR or mosaicking large image sets).

Sometimes I get error messages from trying to copy and paste because that’s going to use too many resources and the clipboard is full :/

7 am here and I’m over 26gb of my 32 so far and I haven’t opened anything but the insane amounts of web tabs and a few instances of excel.

Hell, Chrome is reason enough for 16 GB of RAM.

Must be a medical thing. I work in healthcare IT and the PCs we are told to buy only have 4GB ram and the hardcore PC users are always calling to say that their PC says it is out of resources.

Get better PCs! At leat yours are 64 bit though. I’m stuck with 32, which is gross.

Only some are 64-bit. And we can’t. The configurations we order are specified by our corporate overlords.

They gave me better than that as a software engineering intern at (insert major tech company), but then proceeded to load it with so much bloatware and antivirus software that it was all pointless
